BJP Unveils Nitin Nabin’s New National Team, Smriti Irani and Vasundhara Raje Get Key Roles

The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced a major reshuffle of its national organisational structure under party president Nitin Nabin, bringing several experienced leaders into important positions while introducing a wider mix of regional, social and organisational representation.

The new team was announced on Monday, seven months after Nitin Nabin took charge as the BJP’s national president. The restructuring gives prominent responsibilities to former Union minister Smriti Irani, former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia, senior leader Ram Madhav, BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde and several other leaders. The appointments come as the party prepares for a series of politically significant assembly elections and seeks to strengthen its organisational machinery across states.

Smriti Irani Returns to BJP’s National Organisation

One of the most closely watched appointments is that of Smriti Irani, who has been named one of the BJP’s eight national general secretaries.

Irani has previously held several organisational responsibilities within the party and served as a Union minister. Her return to a prominent national organisational position gives her a renewed role in the BJP’s political and electoral strategy.

Her appointment is particularly significant because the general secretary is among the BJP’s most important organisational positions. General secretaries are responsible for coordinating party activities, managing political programmes and overseeing organisational work across different regions.

Irani’s political profile, experience in national politics and previous organisational work are expected to make her an important part of Nabin’s new team.

Vasundhara Raje and Ram Madhav Named National Vice Presidents

Former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia has been appointed a national vice president. Senior BJP leader Ram Madhav, who has previously served as a national general secretary, has also been appointed to the vice-president position.

Raje remains one of the BJP’s most prominent leaders from Rajasthan and has served as chief minister of the state twice. Her inclusion in the national leadership structure gives the party an experienced political figure with a strong regional profile.

Ram Madhav, meanwhile, brings extensive organisational and political experience. His earlier tenure as a national general secretary involved responsibilities connected with the BJP’s organisational and political expansion.

The appointments of Raje and Madhav indicate the importance being given to experienced leaders as the party reorganises its central team.

Vinod Tawde Retained as National General Secretary

Vinod Tawde has been retained as a national general secretary in the new organisational structure. Sunil Bansal has also retained his position.

The continuation of both leaders is significant because of their experience in handling election-related responsibilities in different states.

Tawde has played an important role in the BJP’s electoral organisation and has been associated with responsibilities in Kerala and Bihar. His experience in managing state-level political operations is expected to remain valuable as the party prepares for upcoming electoral contests.

Bansal has also handled important organisational assignments, including work connected with West Bengal. His retention suggests that the BJP intends to maintain organisational continuity in areas where experienced election managers are considered important.Nitin Nabin Congratulates New BJP Team, Says Leaders Will Take 'Developed India' Mission Forward | India News - News18

Eight National General Secretaries

The BJP has announced eight national general secretaries as part of the reshuffle. Along with Smriti Irani and the retained Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal, the new team includes Biplab Kumar Deb, Harish Dwivedi, Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel and Sanjay Bhatia.

Biplab Kumar Deb, the former chief minister of Tripura, has been given the national general secretary role, bringing another former chief minister into the party’s central organisational structure.

Satish Poonia, a former Rajasthan BJP state president, has also been appointed national general secretary. His inclusion adds an experienced state-level organisational leader to the national team.

Harish Dwivedi, a former Lok Sabha member who has previously handled state-level organisational responsibilities, has also been elevated to the position. Gajendra Patel and Sanjay Bhatia complete the new group of national general secretaries.

The composition reflects an attempt to combine electoral experience, state-level organisational knowledge and broader social representation.

Piyush Goyal Appointed National Treasurer

Union minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed the BJP’s national treasurer. Goyal previously held the same organisational position between 2010 and 2014.

His return to the treasurer’s role adds a senior political and administrative figure to the party’s organisational structure. The appointment also places an experienced Union minister in charge of an important financial position within the party.

Anil Baluni has been retained as the BJP’s media in-charge, ensuring continuity in the party’s media and communication operations.

Wider Representation in the New Team

The reshuffle is not limited to a change in senior office-bearers. The BJP’s new national team also reflects an effort to maintain representation across different social and regional groups.

The newly announced structure includes 12 women, while leaders from different caste and tribal communities have also been given organisational responsibilities. This is consistent with the BJP’s broader approach of combining electoral politics with social representation within its organisational framework.

Among the national secretaries are Bhola Singh, a three-term MP from Uttar Pradesh, and Kavita Patidar, a Rajya Sabha member from Madhya Pradesh and an OBC leader. Their appointments add further regional and social diversity to the central organisation.

Several Senior Leaders Dropped From Key Posts

While a number of prominent leaders have been promoted or retained, the reshuffle also marks the departure of several existing general secretaries from their previous positions.

Arun Singh, who had served as a BJP general secretary since 2015, does not feature in the newly announced list. Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, who became a general secretary in 2023, has also been left out.

Dushyant Gautam, a prominent Dalit leader who had served as a national general secretary since 2020 and was associated with Uttarakhand, has also been dropped from the general secretary lineup.

The changes indicate that Nitin Nabin has sought to significantly reorganise the party’s central leadership rather than simply retaining the existing structure.

Focus on Upcoming Elections

The timing of the reshuffle is politically important. The BJP is facing a series of electoral challenges in the coming period, making the organisational structure crucial for campaign planning, state coordination and grassroots mobilisation.

Uttar Pradesh is among the most important states on the party’s electoral calendar. The retention of leaders with previous experience of managing elections, including Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal, is therefore significant.

The party’s new structure appears designed to combine continuity with organisational renewal. Experienced leaders have been retained in strategically important positions, while several new faces have been brought into the national team.

Nitin Nabin’s Organisational Approach

The reshuffle is also an important test of Nitin Nabin’s leadership as BJP president. By selecting a combination of senior politicians, former ministers, former chief ministers, state-level organisers and younger leaders, Nabin has sought to create a national team capable of handling both organisational and electoral responsibilities.

The new structure also gives greater prominence to leaders with experience in state politics. This could help the central leadership coordinate more closely with state units at a time when electoral contests are becoming increasingly competitive.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the newly appointed office-bearers and said the team brings together organisational experience, energy and grassroots connectivity. He expressed confidence that the new office-bearers would contribute to strengthening the party and its public-service efforts.

A Mix of Experience, Continuity and Change

The BJP’s latest organisational reshuffle represents a significant restructuring of its national leadership. Smriti Irani’s return to a key organisational position, Vasundhara Raje’s elevation as a national vice president, Ram Madhav’s appointment and the retention of Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal stand out among the major decisions.

At the same time, the removal of several long-serving general secretaries demonstrates that the new leadership intends to make substantial changes to the party’s organisational setup.

The inclusion of women and leaders from different social and regional backgrounds further underlines the BJP’s emphasis on broad representation.

With upcoming elections expected to test the party’s organisational strength, the new national team will play an important role in coordinating campaigns, strengthening state units, managing political outreach and translating the central leadership’s strategy into grassroots activity.

The reshuffle therefore marks more than a routine change in party appointments. It establishes the organisational framework through which Nitin Nabin is expected to lead the BJP into its next phase of political and electoral activity.
