A horrifying case of alleged sexual assault and unlawful confinement in Maharashtra’s Nagpur has sent shockwaves across the country after investigators uncovered disturbing details of the crime. A 16-year-old Class 12 student was allegedly lured by a young man she had befriended through Instagram and online gaming before being held captive for more than 24 hours in a rented apartment, where she was subjected to brutal physical and sexual abuse, according to police.
The accused, a 20-year-old management student, has been arrested and booked under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Authorities described the incident as one of the most disturbing cases they have investigated in recent times because of the alleged level of planning involved.
Friendship Began Through Social Media
According to investigators, the teenager became acquainted with the accused through Instagram, and the two remained in contact through online conversations and gaming platforms. Over time, the accused allegedly gained the girl’s trust before convincing her to meet him in person.
Police believe the meeting was part of a carefully planned trap. Once the victim arrived at a rented apartment in Nagpur’s Dighori area, she was allegedly prevented from leaving and was subjected to repeated physical and sexual assault.
Victim Allegedly Tied Up and Threatened
Investigators said the accused allegedly tied the victim to a bed using restraints and kept a knife beside her to stop her from escaping. Throughout the period of captivity, she was allegedly threatened and intimidated.
Medical examinations reportedly found multiple injuries on the victim’s body, including cuts, bruises, and bite marks, suggesting prolonged physical violence in addition to the alleged sexual assault. Officials said the survivor remains deeply traumatised and is receiving medical treatment and psychological counselling. 
Police Recover Disturbing Evidence
During a search of the rented apartment, investigators reportedly recovered several items believed to be connected to the crime. According to police, the seized material included restraints, sex-related accessories, enhancement pills, and chocolates suspected to have been mixed with intoxicating substances.
Forensic experts examined the crime scene and collected biological samples and other evidence that are expected to play a significant role during the legal proceedings.
Rescue and Investigation
The victim was rescued after police traced her location following information received during the investigation into her disappearance. Officers reached the apartment, rescued the teenager, and arrested the accused.
Police are continuing to examine digital evidence, including mobile phone records, online chats, and forensic material, to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine the full extent of the alleged offences.
Serious Charges Registered
The accused has been booked under several stringent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act, considering that the survivor is a minor. Investigators said additional charges may be added depending on the findings of the ongoing forensic and digital investigation.
Authorities have assured that the case will be investigated thoroughly and that all available evidence will be presented before the court.

The incident has once again highlighted the growing risks associated with online friendships and social media interactions. Law enforcement officials have urged parents and guardians to monitor minors’ online activities and encourage children to report suspicious behaviour or requests from people they meet on the internet.
Police have also advised young social media users to exercise caution while interacting with strangers online and avoid meeting internet acquaintances without informing their family members or trusted adults.
