New Delhi: During a search operation at the historic Red Fort in the national capital, the Delhi police recovered two old cartridges ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, according to police sources on Thursday.
A circuit board, which appeared to be aged, was discovered alongside the cartridges that seemed to be damaged.
Sources indicate that while both cartridges look damaged, a forensic investigation will be conducted to ascertain further details.
The recovered circuit board is suspected to be linked to the lighting arrangements used during a previous event held at the Red Fort.
Delhi Police have registered an FIR following the recovery of the two old cartridges and the circuit board.
The police are currently investigating the situation. More details are expected soon.
Previously, seven personnel from the Delhi Police, including constables and head constables, were suspended after a dummy bomb went unnoticed during a routine security drill at the Red Fort, as reported by the police.
The suspended personnel were part of the security team assigned to the monument.
According to the Delhi Police, seven officers, including constables and head constables, responsible for the security of the Red Fort, have been suspended “due to negligence” in their duties.
The Delhi Police conducts daily drills as part of their preparations for the program scheduled for August 15, they noted.
“A team from the Special Cell carried out a drill on Saturday, entering the Red Fort premises in civilian clothing with a dummy bomb. At that time, the officers assigned to the security of the Red Fort failed to detect the bomb, leading to their suspension,” the police stated.
