Akhilesh Yadav Alleges BJP’s “Poaching Strategy” May Target Samajwadi Party After Other Opposition Defections

In a sharp political statement that has intensified the ongoing war of words between the ruling party and the opposition, Akhilesh Yadav has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is systematically attempting to weaken opposition parties by encouraging defections.

The Samajwadi Party chief suggested that after alleged political realignments involving parties such as the Trinamool Congress and factions of the Shiv Sena (UBT), the BJP’s attention may now be turning toward his own party.

Akhilesh Yadav claimed that political pressures and inducements are being used to destabilize opposition unity, asserting that such efforts reflect the ruling party’s concern over growing anti-incumbency sentiment and opposition consolidation ahead of key electoral battles.

He further referred to regional political figures, including Om Prakash Rajbhar, indicating that shifting alliances and realignments have become a recurring feature in the current political landscape of Uttar Pradesh and beyond.  Now it's UP's turn": UP Minister OP Rajbhar drops bombshell claims Akhilesh Yadav's SP headed for major split

According to Yadav, there are attempts to create an impression that even the Samajwadi Party could face internal fractures or large-scale defections. However, he maintained that the party remains united and firmly positioned against what he described as “political manipulation tactics.”

The remarks come at a time when opposition parties have repeatedly accused the BJP of leveraging institutional influence and political incentives to expand its base by absorbing leaders from rival camps. The BJP, however, has consistently denied such allegations, arguing that individuals who join the party do so out of ideological alignment and public interest.

Political observers note that such statements reflect the heightened political temperature in Uttar Pradesh, where the Samajwadi Party remains one of the BJP’s principal challengers. The narrative of defections has become a recurring theme in the state’s political discourse, often resurfacing during election cycles or major political realignments.

While the BJP has not issued a direct response to the latest allegations, the issue is expected to further fuel debates around party loyalty, political ethics, and the stability of opposition coalitions in India’s evolving electoral landscape.
