A major fire broke out at a furniture market in Shastri Park in Delhi on Thursday, triggering a large-scale emergency response and tense scenes as firefighting efforts were disrupted by stone pelting. The incident left a firefighter injured and created panic among shopkeepers and residents in the densely populated commercial area.

According to emergency responders, the blaze originated in a cluster of furniture shops and quickly spread to adjacent units due to the presence of highly flammable wooden materials, foam, and upholstery goods. Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the area, making visibility difficult and complicating early containment efforts.

Teams from the Delhi Fire Service rushed multiple fire tenders to the spot after receiving distress calls. Firefighters worked for several hours to prevent the flames from spreading further into adjoining commercial establishments and nearby residential pockets. 

During the operation, one officer from the fire service sustained injuries after being hit by debris amid chaotic conditions. Officials confirmed that the injured personnel was immediately provided medical attention. The exact severity of the injury has not been disclosed, but the officer was reported to be stable.

Tensions escalated further when unidentified individuals began throwing stones at firefighters and emergency crews. The sudden attack disrupted ongoing firefighting operations, forcing responders to briefly reposition for safety before resuming efforts to control the blaze. Authorities have not yet confirmed the reason behind the stone pelting, but an investigation is underway.

Police personnel were deployed in large numbers to secure the area and prevent further escalation. They are working to identify those involved in the violence and ensure uninterrupted emergency operations. Meanwhile, fire officials continued their efforts to douse remaining hotspots and prevent any possibility of re-ignition.

Preliminary assessments suggest significant damage to multiple shops, with losses expected to be substantial. However, a detailed evaluation will be conducted once the fire is fully extinguished and the site is declared safe.
