Three Coaches of Ujjaini Express Derail Near Rishikesh; No Casualties Reported

A railway incident was reported late Monday night near Yog Nagari Railway Station in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, when three coaches of the Ujjaini Express derailed during routine railway operations. Officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported, as the train was not carrying passengers at the time of the incident.

According to railway authorities, the derailment occurred around 9:30 pm in the Khand Gaon area when the train was being moved within the yard for operational purposes. The movement was part of a shunting process, during which trains are repositioned for maintenance or scheduling requirements.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the locomotive may have struck a buffer stop at the yard end, creating a forceful impact that led to instability in the attached coaches. As a result, one coach reportedly veered off the tracks, while another sustained structural damage due to pressure during the movement. A third coach was also affected in the incident.  Ujjaini Express Derail

Officials from the railways confirmed that the train was completely empty at the time, significantly reducing the risk of injury or loss of life. Despite the derailment, there was no disruption reported to passenger services in the main route section.

Immediately after the incident, railway rescue and restoration teams were deployed to the site. Heavy machinery, including cranes, was used to remove the derailed coaches and clear the affected section of track. Restoration work continued through the night to ensure that rail operations in the area could be normalised at the earliest.

Authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the derailment. Technical teams are examining whether operational error, mechanical failure, or signalling issues contributed to the incident.

Railway officials have stated that safety protocols were followed during the operation, and a full inquiry will assess any lapses if identified. The incident has once again drawn attention to operational safety in railway yards, where frequent shunting movements require precise coordination.
