IPL 2026 Playoffs Schedule Announced: Ahmedabad Retains Final as Bengaluru Misses Out on Hosting Duties

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially released the complete schedule for the IPL 2026 playoffs, confirming key venues and fixtures for the business end of the tournament. The announcement brings clarity to the knockout stage structure, with matches spread across multiple cities and a significant change in the final venue, which has moved away from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad.

One of the biggest highlights of the schedule is the confirmation that the IPL 2026 final will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The iconic venue continues its strong association with high-profile cricket matches and will now host the IPL final for the fourth time in recent years, reinforcing its status as one of the premier cricket stadiums in the world.

Originally, Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium was expected to host the title clash. However, due to operational and logistical considerations raised by the local cricket association and authorities, the BCCI decided to shift the final to Ahmedabad. The board maintained that the decision was made in line with its established guidelines and protocols for staging major fixtures.

The playoff stage of IPL 2026 will begin after the conclusion of the league phase, with matches scheduled across three different venues.  IPL 2026 Playoffs Schedule Announced, Final Venue Changed

Qualifier 1: Scheduled to be held in Dharamshala, featuring the top two teams from the league stage.

Eliminator: Set to take place in New Chandigarh, giving the third and fourth-placed teams a final chance to stay in contention.

Qualifier 2: Also scheduled in New Chandigarh, determining the second finalist.

Final: To be played in Ahmedabad on May 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

This multi-city playoff arrangement reflects the BCCI’s continued effort to distribute marquee matches across different regions, enhancing fan engagement and stadium participation across northern and western India.

The exclusion of Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium from the playoff hosting list has been one of the most notable developments in the schedule announcement. The venue, traditionally known for its vibrant crowd atmosphere and strong cricketing culture, was initially expected to play a central role in the knockout stage.

However, it ultimately lost out due to compliance-related requirements and logistical constraints that reportedly could not be fully aligned with the BCCI’s hosting framework. As a result, Bengaluru will not feature in the playoff schedule despite being one of the league’s key cricketing hubs.

With the latest decision, Ahmedabad further cements its position as a preferred destination for major cricketing events. The Narendra Modi Stadium, known for its massive seating capacity and modern infrastructure, has frequently hosted IPL playoffs and international finals in recent seasons.

Its repeated selection for the IPL final highlights both logistical convenience and its ability to handle large-scale sporting events efficiently, making it a central pillar in the league’s marquee fixtures.

As the league stage progresses, teams are still competing for playoff spots, with several franchises in contention for the top four positions. The final league matches are expected to determine the complete playoff lineup just days before the knockout stage begins.

With venues now confirmed and the schedule in place, attention will shift fully to on-field performances as teams battle for a place in the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad.
