A 64-year-old man and his alleged accomplice have been arrested in connection with the murder of his 38-year-old son in southeast Delhi. According to police, the victim was allegedly taken to an abandoned shipping container on the pretext of being taken to a doctor before he was attacked and killed.
The deceased, identified as Gul Hasan, was reportedly suffering from schizophrenia and other mental health problems. Police are investigating whether tensions related to his condition and difficulties within the family contributed to the alleged crime.
The accused have been identified as Hasan’s father, Talukdar Ansari, 64, and Mohammad Wasim, also known as Akram, 49. Investigators allege that the two men took Hasan to an isolated container near Kalindi Kunj, where he was attacked before his body was abandoned at the location.
Body Discovered in Abandoned Container
The case came to light on August 23 after police received information about a man’s body lying inside an abandoned shipping container near an NTPC boundary wall in the Kalindi Kunj area.
The location was situated roughly 500 metres from the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and was considered relatively isolated. Police personnel who reached the spot found the body of a man with serious injuries to his head.
Investigators also recovered a stone from the scene that is suspected to have been used during the attack. A murder case was subsequently registered, and police teams began working to establish the identity of the deceased and reconstruct the events leading to his death.
CCTV Footage Becomes Key Evidence
Investigators examined CCTV recordings from the surrounding area as part of their efforts to trace the victim’s movements.
According to police, the footage showed Hasan walking towards the abandoned container accompanied by two men. Investigators did not find footage showing him leaving the area.
The CCTV trail became an important lead in the investigation. Police subsequently tracked the movements of the two men seen accompanying Hasan and worked to establish their identities.
After examining the footage and other evidence, investigators traced the suspects to a garment-related workplace in Govindpuri, where they were taken into custody.![]()
Victim Allegedly Taken to Location on Pretext of Medical Visit
Police allege that Hasan was persuaded to accompany the accused by being told that he was being taken to a doctor for treatment and medicines.
Investigators suspect that this explanation was used to gain Hasan’s trust and take him to the secluded container.
Once inside the container, the victim was allegedly attacked. Police suspect that a stone was used to strike him on the head. Investigators have further alleged that he was strangled using a rope or cord made from pieces of discarded cloth.
His body was allegedly left inside the container after the attack.
Police have recovered several items that may be relevant to the investigation, including the suspected weapon, clothing bearing bloodstains and material believed to have been used as a ligature.
Police Examining Mental Health and Family Circumstances
Investigators have confirmed that Hasan had been suffering from schizophrenia and other mental health-related difficulties.
Police are examining whether his condition, family circumstances and disagreements surrounding his care had any connection with the alleged murder. However, investigators have not yet established a final motive and are continuing to verify the circumstances through evidence and questioning.
The case also highlights the challenges faced by families caring for people dealing with severe mental health conditions. Nevertheless, police are treating the incident primarily as a criminal investigation and are examining the circumstances that allegedly led to Hasan being taken to the isolated location.
Investigation Continues
Following the arrests, police are continuing to investigate the precise sequence of events before and after Hasan was taken to the container.
Forensic examination of the material recovered from the crime scene is expected to play an important role in corroborating the investigation. CCTV footage, technical evidence and statements recorded during the probe are also being examined.
Investigators are questioning the accused to determine how the alleged crime was planned, what happened inside the container and whether anyone else was involved.
Police are also working to establish the individual roles allegedly played by the two accused.
The arrests followed an investigation that relied heavily on CCTV footage and the tracking of the victim’s movements before his death. Further investigation will determine the complete circumstances surrounding the killing and provide greater clarity on the alleged motive.
