The Birbhum Police have expanded their crackdown on alleged illegal stone mining by conducting a series of coordinated raids on properties linked to close associates of absconding stone quarry operator Tulu Mondal. The latest operation is part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged network involved in unauthorized mining activities, financial irregularities, and the accumulation of suspected illegal assets.
According to police officials, the raids were carried out at multiple locations across Birbhum district after investigators gathered fresh intelligence suggesting that several individuals connected to Mondal could possess important evidence regarding his operations and current whereabouts. Authorities believe these associates may have played significant roles in managing financial transactions, business activities, and logistical support linked to the alleged mining network.
Multiple Locations Searched
Teams from the Birbhum Police simultaneously searched several residential and commercial premises believed to be connected with Mondal’s associates. During the operation, investigators examined financial records, business documents, electronic devices, and other materials that could help establish the extent of the alleged illegal mining activities.
Officials stated that the searches are aimed at uncovering evidence related to financial dealings, ownership of assets, and possible attempts to conceal proceeds generated through unauthorized quarrying. The seized materials will now be examined as part of the broader investigation.
Financial Transactions Under Scanner
The investigation has expanded beyond allegations of illegal stone extraction to include a detailed examination of financial transactions linked to Mondal and his associates. Investigators are tracing the movement of funds, ownership of businesses, and acquisition of properties that may have been connected to the alleged mining operations.
Police are also attempting to determine whether individuals associated with Mondal assisted in operating the business network or helped manage assets while he remained active in the region’s stone quarry sector. Financial experts are expected to analyze recovered records to identify possible irregularities and establish the money trail.
Probe Gains Momentum After Major Cash Recovery
The latest raids come after investigators made significant recoveries during earlier operations linked to the same case. Authorities had previously seized a substantial amount of cash and gold from premises connected to Mondal’s network, strengthening suspicions that the alleged illegal mining activities generated considerable unaccounted wealth.
The earlier seizure also led to the arrest of Minar Mondal, who is reported to be a close relative and trusted associate of Tulu Mondal. Investigators believe the recovered assets may provide crucial evidence in establishing the financial structure of the alleged network.
Tulu Mondal Remains Absconding
Despite continuous search operations and multiple enforcement actions, Tulu Mondal has not yet been located. Police teams are pursuing several leads and have intensified intelligence-gathering efforts to trace his whereabouts.
Officials believe that questioning his associates and examining the evidence collected during the raids could reveal information about his movements, communication channels, and support network. Authorities have indicated that additional arrests are possible if further evidence emerges during the investigation.
Investigation Continues
Police have maintained that the case remains under active investigation and that additional raids cannot be ruled out. The evidence collected during the latest searches will undergo detailed forensic and financial examination to identify other individuals who may have been involved in the alleged illegal mining operation.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to locating the absconding quarry operator, dismantling the suspected illegal mining network, and taking legal action against anyone found to have participated in or benefited from unlawful activities. Investigators say the operation forms part of a broader effort to curb illegal mining and ensure accountability for financial and environmental violations.
