Bollywood actress Kirti Kulhari has reportedly fallen victim to a cyber fraud in which fraudsters allegedly siphoned off ₹2.44 lakh through unauthorised credit card transactions. The incident has once again highlighted the increasing threat posed by cybercriminals who are using advanced methods to gain access to personal financial information and carry out fraudulent transactions.
According to the complaint filed by the actress, the unauthorised transactions took place without her knowledge, resulting in a total loss of ₹2,43,852. Kulhari became aware of the fraud only after receiving alerts regarding multiple transactions on her credit card. Realising that the payments had not been authorised by her, she immediately took steps to report the matter to the authorities.
Police Begin Investigation
Following the incident, Kirti Kulhari approached the local police and filed a formal complaint against unidentified individuals. A case has been registered, and investigators have launched an inquiry to determine how the fraud was committed and identify those responsible.
Authorities are examining banking records, digital transaction details, and electronic evidence to trace the movement of the money. Investigators are also expected to coordinate with financial institutions and cybercrime experts to understand whether the fraud involved stolen card credentials, malware, or another sophisticated cyberattack.
Actress Claims She Never Shared Banking Credentials
One of the significant aspects of the case is that Kulhari has reportedly stated she never disclosed her passwords, card details, or banking credentials to anyone. This has led investigators to believe that the fraud may have been carried out using advanced cyber techniques rather than traditional scams involving OTP sharing or phishing calls.
Cybercriminals today often exploit security loopholes, compromised payment systems, malicious software, or stolen financial data to gain unauthorised access to accounts without the victim’s direct involvement.
Growing Concern Over Financial Cybercrime
The case adds to the growing number of cyber fraud incidents reported across the country. As digital payments and online banking continue to become an essential part of everyday life, cybercriminals are constantly developing new methods to bypass security systems and target unsuspecting users.
Cybersecurity professionals advise people to regularly monitor their bank accounts and credit card statements, activate instant transaction alerts, use strong passwords, enable multi-factor authentication wherever possible, and immediately report any suspicious activity to both their bank and law enforcement agencies.
They also caution users against sharing confidential financial information through phone calls, emails, text messages, or unknown websites, as fraudsters frequently use deceptive tactics to obtain sensitive data.
Investigation Underway
The investigation into the fraud is currently ongoing, and police are working to identify those involved by analysing digital evidence and transaction trails. No arrests have been reported so far.
The incident involving Kirti Kulhari serves as a reminder that cybercrime can affect anyone, regardless of profession or public profile. With online financial transactions becoming increasingly common, experts continue to stress the importance of digital awareness, strong security practices, and prompt reporting of suspicious activity to minimise financial losses and help authorities combat cybercrime.
