A delivery executive working for an e-commerce company has been arrested in Bengaluru after a woman accused him of entering her apartment without permission and sexually harassing her during a parcel delivery. The incident has raised fresh concerns about customer safety and security during home deliveries, particularly for women living alone.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Vijay Mallikarjun Kamat. He was arrested after the woman filed a complaint detailing the events that allegedly took place at her residence in Bengaluru. The case is currently under investigation by the Marathahalli Police.
Routine Delivery Turned Into a Criminal Case
Police said the incident occurred when the delivery executive arrived at the woman’s apartment to deliver a parcel. After handing over the package, he allegedly asked if he could use the washroom inside her home.
The complainant reportedly refused his request several times, explaining that she was alone and uncomfortable allowing a stranger into her apartment. Despite her repeated refusal, the accused allegedly entered the flat without her consent.
Once inside, the woman alleged that the delivery executive behaved in a sexually inappropriate manner, leaving her frightened and distressed.
Woman Recorded Part of the Incident
Realising the situation was becoming unsafe, the woman reportedly used her mobile phone to record part of the incident. The video is believed to have captured the accused’s behaviour and has become an important piece of evidence in the police investigation.
Following the incident, she immediately approached the police and lodged a formal complaint.
Case Registered Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
Based on the woman’s complaint and the preliminary evidence collected, police registered a case against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to sexual harassment, insulting the modesty of a woman, and criminal trespass.
Police arrested the accused soon after registering the case. Officials said further investigation is underway, and additional evidence is being examined before the filing of the charge sheet.
Company Removes Delivery Executive
The e-commerce company confirmed that the delivery executive has been removed from its delivery network following the incident. The company stated that customer safety is of utmost importance and that it is fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities during the investigation.
The company also reiterated that incidents of this nature are taken seriously and that appropriate action is initiated whenever such complaints are received.
Renewed Focus on Customer Safety
The case has attracted widespread attention and has reignited discussions about the safety of customers during doorstep deliveries. The incident has prompted calls for stricter background verification of delivery personnel, enhanced employee training, and stronger safety measures to protect customers.
Safety experts have also advised residents, especially those living alone, to remain cautious while interacting with unknown visitors and to report any suspicious behaviour to the authorities immediately.
Police Continue Investigation
Police officials said the investigation remains ongoing and that all available evidence, including the complainant’s statement and the recorded video, is being thoroughly examined. Authorities have assured that the case will be investigated in accordance with the law and that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.
The incident serves as another reminder of the importance of ensuring customer safety in the rapidly growing home delivery sector, where trust and accountability remain essential for both service providers and consumers.
