The Chhattisgarh government has formally transferred the investigation into the brutal triple murder in Korea district to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), marking a significant development in a case that has drawn widespread attention due to its alleged links to a long-standing rivalry over sand mining operations. The decision comes amid growing demands for an independent and comprehensive inquiry into the violent incident that claimed three lives and left two others seriously injured.
The state’s Home Department issued an official notification authorizing the transfer of the case to the premier central investigative agency. Authorities stated that the move is intended to ensure an impartial and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding one of the most shocking criminal incidents reported in the state this year.
Deadly Attack Linked to Business Rivalry
The case revolves around a violent confrontation that police believe stemmed from an intense dispute between two influential families involved in sand mining and related businesses in the region.
The victims included businessman Bharat Singh, aged around 60, Virendra Pratap Singh, 32, and Nagendra Singh, 53. According to investigators, the group was travelling in an SUV when they were allegedly ambushed by rivals.
Preliminary findings suggest that the attackers used a tipper truck to repeatedly ram the victims’ vehicle. The impact reportedly caused severe damage to the SUV and jammed its doors, trapping those inside. Investigators allege that the assailants then poured fuel on the vehicle and set it ablaze.
Authorities further stated that some occupants attempted to escape by breaking the windows. However, those efforts were allegedly met with further violence as attackers used sharp-edged weapons against the victims.
Bharat Singh died after becoming trapped inside the burning vehicle, while Nagendra Singh and Virendra Pratap Singh later succumbed to their injuries. Two other individuals sustained serious injuries and required medical treatment.
Long-Running Feud Under Investigation
Police investigations have pointed toward a prolonged dispute between two families over control of sand mining and stone-crushing operations in the area. Officials believe tensions had been escalating for an extended period before culminating in the deadly attack.
Investigators have indicated that the rivalry intensified following a confrontation between members of the two groups several days before the killings. According to police accounts, discussions and interactions between representatives of both sides continued in the lead-up to the incident, ultimately ending in violence.
The case has highlighted the growing concerns surrounding conflicts linked to natural resource extraction and mining-related business interests in parts of central India. Authorities are examining whether the attack was pre-planned and whether a larger conspiracy was involved. 
Arrests Already Made
Law enforcement agencies have already taken action against several suspects. Four members of the rival family were arrested in connection with the killings during the initial phase of the investigation.
Police have maintained that evidence collected so far indicates a direct connection between the murders and the business rivalry. However, officials have emphasized that further investigation is necessary to establish the complete chain of events, identify all individuals involved, and determine whether additional conspirators played a role.
Family Demanded Independent Inquiry
The victims’ family had been consistently demanding that the case be handed over to the CBI, arguing that an independent agency would be better positioned to uncover the full truth behind the killings.

The central agency may also examine whether the murders were part of a larger pattern of organized criminal activity connected to resource-based business disputes.
