Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump held extensive high-level talks in Beijing, where both leaders reportedly reached a series of new common understandings aimed at improving bilateral ties and reducing strategic tensions between the world’s two largest economies.

The discussions took place during Trump’s multi-day visit to China, marking the first visit by a sitting US president to the country in nearly a decade. According to statements issued by Chinese officials, the two leaders exchanged views on major international and bilateral concerns, including trade, regional security, global conflicts, and long-term diplomatic cooperation.

Chinese authorities described the meetings as constructive and forward-looking, noting that both sides agreed on building a “constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability” that could guide relations over the next several years. Officials said the agreement is intended to create a more stable and predictable framework for engagement despite ongoing geopolitical rivalry.

In addition to geopolitical concerns, both leaders reportedly discussed expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, agriculture, and global economic coordination. Chinese officials indicated that both countries aim to promote a “steady, sound and sustainable” relationship that can contribute to global stability and economic growth.

Observers view the summit as an attempt by both governments to stabilise ties amid increasing global uncertainty and strategic competition. Recent tensions over trade policies, technology restrictions, military positioning in the Indo-Pacific, and conflicts involving Iran and Taiwan have placed significant pressure on the relationship between Washington and Beijing.

During the visit, Xi hosted Trump for official ceremonies and diplomatic engagements in Beijing, including formal talks and cultural events. Chinese officials described the visit as an important diplomatic moment that could influence the future direction of international politics and global economic cooperation.
