A disturbing case of alleged sexual assault has emerged from Kerala, where police have arrested an auto-rickshaw driver accused of drugging a woman with a spiked beverage before sexually assaulting her. The incident has sparked renewed concerns over women’s safety and the misuse of trust in public transport interactions.
According to police officials, the incident took place after the accused, an auto driver, reportedly gained the woman’s trust during a routine interaction. Investigators stated that he allegedly offered her juice laced with intoxicating substances, which caused her to lose consciousness. Taking advantage of her vulnerable condition, he is accused of sexually assaulting her.
The victim later regained awareness and approached authorities, following which a complaint was registered. Acting swiftly on the allegations and initial evidence, law enforcement officers launched an investigation and subsequently apprehended the suspect. He is now in custody and being questioned as part of the ongoing probe.
Police sources indicated that the case is being treated with seriousness due to the premeditated nature of the alleged crime, including the use of chemical substances to incapacitate the victim. Officials are also examining whether the accused may have been involved in similar offences or if there are additional victims.
Authorities have reiterated that the investigation will focus on gathering forensic evidence, recording witness statements, and verifying the sequence of events leading up to the incident. The victim is also receiving necessary medical and psychological support.
The case has once again highlighted growing concerns over crimes involving drugging of victims, particularly in situations where perpetrators exploit everyday service interactions such as transportation. Law enforcement agencies have urged the public to remain cautious and report suspicious behaviour immediately.
