Iran has reportedly appointed senior military figure Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr as the new Secretary of its Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), replacing Ali Larijani.
As per reports, Zolghadr, a former commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, will head one of the country’s most powerful security bodies responsible for shaping defence, nuclear and foreign policy decisions.
His appointment follows the death of Larijani in recent strikes, marking a major shift in Iran’s top leadership structure.
The Supreme National Security Council reportedly plays a central role in coordinating Iran’s military and strategic responses, particularly during periods of conflict, making the post one of the most influential in the country.
Analysts said the appointment of a figure linked to the Revolutionary Guards signals a continued move towards a more security-focused leadership approach, as tensions with the United States and Israel remain high.
