Akhil Gogoi: “Either Gaurav Gogoi Goes to Jail or CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Resigns After September 10”

Guwahati: Ahead of Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s promised “big expose” against Congress MP and Deputy Leader of Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi has raised the political stakes, predicting dramatic consequences either way.

Speaking at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district on Tuesday, Akhil Gogoi recalled that the Chief Minister had set September 10 as the date to reveal alleged links between Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi and Pakistan.

“I have been waiting for tomorrow since the Chief Minister is going to explode an atom bomb that will shake Assam’s power corridors. He also assured that if his expose is proven wrong, he will resign. So, I am waiting for tomorrow,” Akhil Gogoi said.

The Raijor Dal leader further remarked, “Either Gaurav Gogoi is going to jail or Chief Minister Sarma will tender his resignation.” His comments come amid repeated allegations by Sarma that Gaurav Gogoi and his wife had links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The Chief Minister has also claimed that Gogoi had travelled to Pakistan at the invitation of the ISI.

Earlier, on May 6, Sarma had announced that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had completed its probe but was awaiting formal documents from international agencies. “We are waiting for visa and passport copies from foreign authorities. Once the legal documentation is in place, the report will be made public. This process may take until September 10,” the Chief Minister had stated.

Defending the seriousness of his allegations, Sarma had stressed, “This is a grave national security issue. I am not speaking as a politician but as a responsible citizen and the Chief Minister of Assam.”

With the self-imposed deadline now approaching, political circles across Assam are rife with speculation. Observers believe September 10 could turn out to be a defining moment in the state’s politics, depending on whether the Chief Minister produces concrete evidence to support his explosive claims.
