Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam Begins Eight-Day State Visit to India

New Delhi: Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, has arrived in India on an eight-day state visit, accompanied by his spouse and a high-level delegation. The visit, which runs from September 9 to September 16, aims to further deepen the strategic partnership between India and Mauritius across defence, trade, investment, maritime security, and cultural cooperation.

PM Ramgoolam’s engagements began in Mumbai, where he attended a major business event. He will then travel to Varanasi on September 10, where he will participate in bilateral meetings and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 11. He is also scheduled to attend the iconic Ganga Aarti and offer prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple before proceeding to Ayodhya.

From September 13–14, the Mauritius Prime Minister will attend official programs in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. On September 15, he will arrive in Delhi, and on the concluding day of his visit, September 16, he will pay floral tributes at Rajghat and Sadaiv Atal Samarak, before visiting the New Parliament House.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted that India and Mauritius share a “close and special relationship” rooted in historical and cultural bonds.

This visit is expected to give a fresh boost to bilateral cooperation in key areas such as education, culture, maritime security, and economic development. Notably, PM Ramgoolam last visited India in May 2014, when he was the only non-SAARC leader invited to the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Modi and the Council of Ministers.
