At least six people, including five women, were killed and several others injured after a private passenger bus collided with a stationary container truck in Telangana’s Suryapet district during the early hours of Wednesday. The crash occurred on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway (NH-65), near Dorakunta village on the outskirts of Kodad mandal.
According to preliminary police information, the private bus was carrying around 42 passengers and was travelling from Hyderabad towards Vijayawada and Eluru when it struck the container truck from behind. The collision was reported to have taken place at high speed, causing extensive damage to the front portion of the bus.
Six Passengers Killed in High-Impact Collision
The force of the crash was severe, resulting in the deaths of six passengers at the accident site. Five of those killed were women. Police said around 20 passengers suffered serious injuries, with some reportedly in critical condition.
The injured passengers were trapped or stranded inside the badly damaged bus following the collision. Local residents who noticed the accident quickly alerted the police and emergency responders, following which rescue operations were launched.
Police and emergency personnel, assisted by people from nearby areas, worked to evacuate passengers from the wreckage. The injured were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment, while those requiring more intensive medical attention were shifted to the government hospital in Kodad.
Bus Was Travelling From Hyderabad Towards Eluru
The private bus had begun its journey in Hyderabad and was travelling towards Vijayawada and subsequently Eluru in Andhra Pradesh. Preliminary information indicates that the bus crashed into the rear of the stationary container truck on the highway.
The circumstances surrounding why the truck was stationary on the highway and why the bus failed to avoid it are being examined by investigators. Police are looking into several possible factors, including speeding, driver negligence and other circumstances that may have contributed to the crash.
Officials have not yet established the exact cause of the accident. Investigators are also examining the position of the truck, road conditions and other circumstances at the time of the collision.
Rescue Operations Launched Immediately
The accident caused disruption to traffic movement along the busy Hyderabad–Vijayawada route. Police and rescue teams reached the location after receiving information about the crash and began clearing the damaged vehicles and assisting the injured.
The severity of the impact made the rescue operation difficult, as several parts of the bus were badly damaged. Local residents also joined the emergency response and helped authorities evacuate passengers.
The injured were transported to hospitals for medical treatment. Authorities are continuing to assess their condition, while some of the seriously injured passengers remain under close medical observation.
Investigation Underway
A case has been registered in connection with the accident, and police have begun an investigation into the circumstances that led to the collision. Investigators are expected to examine whether excessive speed, driver fatigue, lack of visibility or other road-related factors played a role.
Officials are also working to establish the identities of all the deceased and injured passengers. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses and authorities complete the identification process.
The accident once again highlights the risks faced by passengers travelling on major highways during late-night and early-morning hours, when visibility and driver alertness can become critical safety factors.
Telangana Chief Minister Expresses Grief
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed shock and grief over the deaths. He conveyed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and directed senior officials to ensure that the injured receive appropriate medical treatment.
The Chief Minister also instructed the state administration to take necessary measures for the care and treatment of the injured passengers.
