The Centre has ordered the deployment of 20 additional companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the national capital amid ongoing protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), demonstrations by political groups and the continuing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
The additional security personnel are being moved from West Bengal to Delhi following directions issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Officials said the deployment is aimed at strengthening the security apparatus in the capital and ensuring effective crowd management and maintenance of law and order during a period of heightened political activity.
According to security officials, the 20 CRPF companies are being airlifted from Kolkata for immediate deployment in Delhi. The decision was taken after authorities reviewed the prevailing security situation, particularly in view of protests and incidents of clashes reported during recent demonstrations.
The deployment comes against the backdrop of heightened activity in the national capital, where large political gatherings and protests have increased the demands on the existing security arrangements. Authorities are also required to maintain security around key government establishments and sensitive locations while ensuring that the functioning of Parliament continues without disruption.
Officials said the CRPF units being brought to Delhi had earlier been stationed in West Bengal in connection with security arrangements for the state Assembly elections held a few months ago. The companies had remained in the state following a request from the state government. They are now being redeployed to Delhi in response to the Centre’s latest security assessment.
A CRPF company generally consists of around 100 personnel. The movement of 20 additional companies therefore represents a significant reinforcement of the security deployment in the capital. The personnel are expected to assist local law enforcement agencies in handling large gatherings, controlling crowds and responding to any potential law-and-order situation.
The Centre has already made available around 30 companies of the CRPF and its specialised anti-riot force, the Rapid Action Force (RAF), to support the Delhi Police. The additional deployment is expected to further increase the security presence in areas affected by protests and around locations that require enhanced protection.
The security reinforcement is particularly significant as the Monsoon Session of Parliament began on July 20. The Parliament complex and surrounding areas remain among the most sensitive zones in the national capital, requiring extensive security arrangements during sessions. The presence of political demonstrations in Delhi at the same time has added to the responsibilities of security agencies.
The authorities are closely monitoring the situation as protests continue. Officials said the additional forces would help strengthen the ability of the Delhi Police to respond to large gatherings and maintain public order.
