West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chairperson Mamata Banerjee has appealed to party leaders, workers, and supporters to participate in large numbers in the party’s annual July 21 Martyrs’ Day rally, one of the most significant political events on the TMC calendar.
In her message to party members, Banerjee described the annual gathering as more than just a political programme, saying it is an occasion to honour the sacrifices of those who lost their lives during the July 21, 1993 incident. She urged supporters from every district of West Bengal to attend the rally with discipline, unity, and commitment.
The July 21 Martyrs’ Day event has become a defining tradition for the Trinamool Congress since its formation. Every year, thousands of party workers and supporters travel to Kolkata to participate in the rally, where the leadership addresses key political developments, organizational goals, and issues affecting the people of the state.
Banerjee stressed that the strength of the Trinamool Congress lies in its close relationship with the people. She encouraged party workers to remain connected with citizens at the grassroots level, continue serving the public, and work with dedication to address local concerns.
Calling for unity within the party, Banerjee urged supporters not to be distracted by political criticism or internal differences. She said the July 21 rally should reflect the party’s solidarity and demonstrate its commitment to safeguarding the interests of the people of West Bengal.
The annual observance commemorates the 13 youth activists who were killed in police firing during a protest on July 21, 1993. The incident remains one of the most significant events in Mamata Banerjee’s political journey and has since become a symbol of the Trinamool Congress’ political identity.
This year’s rally has attracted additional attention due to changes in its arrangements. Authorities have approved the event with specific conditions related to the venue, crowd management, and public safety. The party has assured supporters that all necessary measures will be followed to ensure the programme is conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner.
Banerjee expressed confidence that the rally would once again witness an overwhelming response from party workers across the state. She called on supporters to maintain discipline throughout the programme and make the event a strong display of the party’s unity and organizational strength.
Political observers believe the July 21 Martyrs’ Day rally will be closely watched as it offers the Trinamool Congress leadership an opportunity to outline its political strategy, address current state and national issues, and strengthen its support base ahead of future electoral challenges.
Preparations for the event are underway across West Bengal, with district-level leaders coordinating travel and mobilizing supporters to ensure a significant turnout at what is expected to be one of the party’s largest annual political gatherings.
