An Indian citizen was among 12 people killed in a fresh wave of Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday, as Kyiv and surrounding areas faced another night of intense aerial bombardment.
The latest assault marked the sixth consecutive day of Russian attacks targeting the Ukrainian capital and its wider region. The strikes involved ballistic and other missiles as well as a large number of drones, causing casualties, damaging residential structures and civilian infrastructure, and triggering emergency response operations across several affected areas.
According to Zelenskyy, the overnight attacks resulted in the deaths of 12 people, including an Indian national, while dozens of others were injured. He expressed condolences to the families of those killed and said emergency personnel were continuing efforts to deal with the consequences of the strikes.
The attacks began on Monday evening and continued into Tuesday morning, placing Kyiv and neighbouring communities under sustained aerial threat. Odesa and other regions also targeted
The Russian offensive was not limited to Kyiv. Other parts of Ukraine, including the Odesa region, also came under attack.
Infrastructure in the southern region was damaged, including facilities important to transport and civilian activity. Ukrainian authorities have previously warned that strikes on Odesa and surrounding areas could have wider consequences because of the region’s importance as a major transport and export hub.
The attacks come amid an intensification of Russian aerial operations against Ukraine. Ukrainian officials have reported an increasing use of jet-powered drones, which can pose additional challenges for air-defence systems because of their speed and flight characteristics.
