A significant development has emerged in the high-profile 2024 firing case outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence, with alleged gangster Anmol Bishnoi formally approaching a special court in Mumbai seeking permission to surrender and participate in the ongoing judicial proceedings.
The application, filed before the Special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Court, marks a notable turn in the investigation into the firing incident that drew nationwide attention and intensified scrutiny of the alleged criminal network linked to the Bishnoi gang. According to the plea, Anmol Bishnoi has expressed his willingness to voluntarily submit himself before the Mumbai court, arguing that doing so is necessary to ensure a fair trial and uphold the principles of justice.
Voluntary Surrender Requested
In his application, Anmol Bishnoi has stated that he intends to surrender voluntarily in connection with the case and become part of the ongoing legal proceedings. He has maintained that participating in the trial is essential to safeguard his legal rights and ensure that the judicial process proceeds fairly.
Currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail in connection with a separate investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Bishnoi informed the court that he is already in judicial custody and therefore cannot physically appear before the Mumbai court without appropriate legal directions.
Demand for Production Warrant
Since he remains incarcerated in another case, Bishnoi has requested the special court to issue a production warrant directing prison authorities to produce him before the Mumbai court.
His plea further requests that the court formally record his surrender and initiate the necessary remand proceedings. If physical production is not immediately feasible, the application also seeks permission for virtual court proceedings in accordance with legal procedures.
Background of the 2024 Firing Incident
The case relates to the firing that took place outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments residence in Mumbai’s Bandra area on April 14, 2024.
According to investigators, two motorcycle-borne assailants arrived outside the actor’s residence during the early morning hours and allegedly opened fire before fleeing the scene. Although no injuries were reported, the incident prompted an extensive investigation by the Mumbai Police owing to the high-profile nature of the target.
The investigation later expanded significantly after authorities alleged that the attack had been orchestrated by members of the Bishnoi gang. The case was subsequently brought under the stringent provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), allowing investigators to pursue charges related to organised criminal activity.
Alleged Role of the Bishnoi Network
Investigators have consistently alleged that the attack was planned and executed under the directions of the Bishnoi criminal syndicate.
The police investigation and subsequent charge sheet named several accused, including jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, his younger brother Anmol Bishnoi, and other alleged associates. Authorities have maintained that the firing was intended as an act of intimidation and was allegedly coordinated through members of the organised crime network.
Earlier investigation records indicated that the Mumbai Crime Branch had identified multiple individuals for roles ranging from reconnaissance and logistics to execution of the attack, while alleging that the conspiracy extended beyond those directly involved in the firing.
Anmol Bishnoi’s Custody Status
Anmol Bishnoi was deported to India from the United States in November 2025 and was subsequently arrested by the National Investigation Agency in connection with an investigation into the alleged terror-gangster nexus linked to the Bishnoi syndicate.
Since his arrival in India, he has remained lodged in Tihar Jail under judicial custody in the NIA case. His present application before the Mumbai special court is aimed specifically at enabling his appearance in the Salman Khan firing case while continuing to remain in lawful custody.
Trial Continues Against Other Accused
Meanwhile, judicial proceedings in the Salman Khan house firing case have already commenced against several other accused who are currently facing trial.
The prosecution has invoked provisions under MCOCA along with other criminal statutes, alleging that the accused were members of an organised crime syndicate responsible for planning and executing the attack. With Anmol Bishnoi now seeking to formally surrender, the special court is expected to consider his application after hearing the prosecution’s response and determine the next course of legal action.
The court’s decision on the application could play an important role in shaping the future course of one of India’s most closely watched criminal cases involving organised crime and alleged threats against a prominent public figure.
