Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed confidence that the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, commonly known as AFSPA, will be removed from most parts of Northeast India by 2027, highlighting what he described as significant improvements in the region’s security situation and a sustained decline in insurgency-related violence.

Speaking about the government’s efforts to restore peace and stability in the Northeast, Shah said the region has witnessed a remarkable transformation over the past decade.
