The swearing-in ceremony, held in the state capital, marked the beginning of a new phase in Karnataka’s governance and brought an end to Siddaramaiah’s tenure at the helm of the state government.

Shivakumar’s elevation to the top post represents the culmination of a long political journey and reinforces his position as one of the most influential leaders in Karnataka politics.
Grand Oath-Taking Ceremony
The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot during a ceremony attended by senior political leaders, government officials, party workers, and invited dignitaries. Shivakumar’s appointment follows the resignation of Siddaramaiah, who stepped down after serving as Chief Minister for more than half of the government’s tenure. The transition had been anticipated for some time, with political observers closely monitoring developments within the Congress leadership.
The party leadership ultimately endorsed Shivakumar as the successor, with the Congress Legislature Party unanimously backing his appointment. The move is widely viewed as an attempt to maintain internal unity while ensuring a smooth transfer of power.
Throughout the transition process, senior party leaders emphasized cohesion and stability, projecting a united front during the change in leadership.
