Ram Rahim Granted Parole Again as Haryana Authorities Approve Temporary Release

Convicted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has once again been granted parole by Haryana authorities, marking the 16th temporary release he has received since his conviction in 2017. The latest parole order has reignited discussions over the frequency of his releases and the political implications surrounding them.

Ram Rahim, who is serving a prison sentence in connection with rape convictions and other criminal cases, was released from Rohtak’s Sunaria jail following official approval from the state administration. The parole has reportedly been granted for a fixed duration under provisions available to prisoners under Haryana prison rules.

The controversial religious leader has repeatedly received parole, furlough, or temporary release over the past several years, often drawing criticism from opposition parties, activists, and legal observers who question the consistency and timing of such decisions. Critics have argued that the repeated paroles create concerns regarding equal treatment under the law, especially considering the gravity of the crimes for which he was convicted.

Supporters of the Dera chief, however, maintain that the paroles are being granted in accordance with legal procedures applicable to all inmates and that the decisions are administrative rather than political. Officials have also maintained that the releases comply with prison regulations and judicial guidelines.

Ram Rahim was convicted in 2017 by a special court in connection with the rape of two women followers. The conviction triggered widespread violence in parts of Haryana and neighboring states, resulting in multiple deaths and large-scale property damage. Since then, he has remained incarcerated while continuing to command significant influence among followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect.  Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh gets parole again, 16th since conviction

Apart from the rape convictions, Ram Rahim has also faced legal action in other criminal cases, including matters related to the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati and former Dera manager Ranjit Singh. These cases have kept the controversial preacher in national focus for years.

Political analysts often point to the Dera Sacha Sauda’s considerable support base in Haryana, Punjab, and adjoining regions, particularly among rural and lower-income communities. Because of this influence, every parole granted to Ram Rahim tends to generate political scrutiny, especially around election periods or significant political developments in the region.

The latest release has once again triggered reactions from opposition leaders, who questioned the rationale behind repeated paroles for a high-profile convict. Some critics alleged that the timing of such decisions could carry political significance, though no official evidence has been presented to substantiate those claims.

Meanwhile, security agencies in Haryana have reportedly remained alert during the parole period to prevent any law-and-order issues. Authorities have historically taken precautionary measures whenever Ram Rahim is released, considering the scale of public gatherings involving his followers.

The Dera chief’s repeated paroles continue to divide public opinion. While supporters view the temporary releases as a legal entitlement, detractors argue that the frequency of such permissions undermines public confidence in the justice system. The issue is expected to remain politically and socially sensitive as debates over prison reforms, parole policies, and equal application of law continue across the country.
