The deceased student has been identified as Navya Gadusu, a native of Telangana, who had moved to the United States to pursue advanced studies. Authorities said the accident occurred on Interstate 65 near Chicago during late-night travel hours when the vehicle carrying seven adults met with a severe collision.

According to preliminary findings released by local law enforcement agencies, the minivan was travelling at a relatively slow speed after encountering a malfunctioning vehicle ahead on the highway. During the slowdown, another vehicle reportedly struck the minivan from behind with significant force, causing it to veer off the roadway and plunge into a ditch.

Investigators examining the crash indicated that factors such as the impact of the collision, vehicle positioning, and possible lack of seat belt usage may have contributed to the severity of the incident. Officials continue to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.

Navya was reportedly enrolled at Roosevelt University in Chicago and had been living in the United States for over two years. Family members said she had completed her engineering education in India before relocating abroad for higher studies and future career opportunities.

Reports from her hometown in Telangana stated that she was travelling with friends at the time of the crash. The sudden tragedy has left her family, friends, and local community in deep shock and mourning. Messages of condolence poured in from students, community organizations, and members of the Indian diaspora following confirmation of her death.

The Indian Consulate in the United States expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured assistance in coordinating with local authorities and facilitating necessary formalities. Efforts are reportedly underway to help transport her mortal remains back to India.

The incident once again highlights the emotional and practical challenges faced by international students living abroad, particularly those balancing studies, part-time employment, and long-distance travel. The accident has also renewed conversations around highway safety and late-night travel conditions in the United States.
