Russia unleashed one of its most intense aerial attacks on Ukraine in recent months, targeting Kyiv and surrounding regions with waves of drones and missiles shortly after a temporary ceasefire came to an end. Ukrainian authorities reported that at least one person was killed while dozens of civilians were injured as explosions echoed across the capital through the night.

According to Ukrainian officials, the large-scale assault struck multiple districts in and around Kyiv, damaging residential buildings, civilian infrastructure, and public facilities. Emergency crews rushed to affected neighborhoods as rescue operations continued amid fears that additional victims could still be trapped beneath collapsed structures.

Air raid sirens sounded repeatedly across Kyiv as residents sought shelter in underground metro stations and basements during the prolonged attack. Witnesses described hearing continuous explosions and seeing flashes in the sky as Ukrainian air defense systems attempted to intercept incoming missiles and drones.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes, stating that Russia launched hundreds of drones along with dozens of missiles in a coordinated assault primarily aimed at Kyiv. He argued that the renewed bombardment demonstrated Moscow’s unwillingness to move toward peace despite recent discussions surrounding a temporary truce.   

Officials said more than twenty sites across Kyiv suffered damage during the attack. Residential complexes, schools, veterinary clinics, and other civilian facilities were reportedly hit. Rescue workers were seen digging through debris at partially collapsed apartment buildings while medical teams treated the wounded, including children.

The strikes came immediately after the expiration of a short-lived ceasefire that had briefly reduced hostilities between Russia and Ukraine. Both sides had accused each other of violating the truce even before it formally ended, raising doubts about the possibility of a sustained pause in the conflict.

Military analysts described the latest offensive as part of a broader escalation in the ongoing war, with Russia intensifying long-range attacks on Ukrainian cities. Ukrainian officials claimed that the country faced one of the largest drone offensives since the war began, with hundreds of aerial threats launched within a short period.

The renewed attacks also coincided with heightened diplomatic activity involving global leaders and ongoing international discussions regarding possible pathways toward negotiations. However, Ukrainian authorities argued that the latest strikes undermined suggestions that the war could soon move toward a settlement.

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the conflict has evolved into Europe’s largest military confrontation in decades. Continuous missile and drone attacks have devastated cities, displaced millions of civilians, and caused extensive casualties on both sides.
