CBI Takes Over Investigation Into Murder of Aide Linked to Suvendu Adhikari, Forms Special Investigation Team

In a major development in a high-profile murder case from West Bengal, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially taken over the investigation into the killing of an aide associated with senior political leader Suvendu Adhikari. The agency has also constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a more structured and intensive probe into the incident, which has drawn significant political and administrative attention in the state.

The decision marks a critical turning point in the case, which was earlier being investigated by the state police. With the CBI now assuming responsibility, the probe is expected to widen in scope, examining possible motives including political rivalry, personal disputes, and other circumstantial factors connected to the victim’s background and associations.

According to officials, the victim was a close associate of Suvendu Adhikari and was allegedly murdered under suspicious circumstances. The incident immediately triggered concern due to the victim’s political proximity, leading to demands from various quarters for a neutral and independent investigation.

By forming an SIT, the CBI has indicated that the case will be handled as a complex and sensitive investigation requiring detailed scrutiny. The team is expected to include senior officers experienced in handling homicide cases, forensic investigations, and politically sensitive crimes.

The SIT’s responsibilities will include re-examining existing evidence, recording fresh statements from witnesses, and verifying the sequence of events leading up to the murder. Investigators are also expected to reconstruct the crime scene and identify any inconsistencies in earlier findings.  CBI Takes Over Murder Case Of West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari's Aide, Forms SIT

Sources suggest that the CBI will review the investigation conducted by the state police to identify potential gaps or overlooked evidence. In addition, digital records, call data, CCTV footage where available, and forensic reports will be closely analyzed to build a clearer picture of the crime.

The case has attracted considerable political attention in West Bengal, given the victim’s association with a prominent opposition figure. Political parties have engaged in sharp exchanges over the state’s law and order situation, with accusations and counter-accusations intensifying in the wake of the murder.

With the central agency stepping in, expectations have risen for a more transparent and impartial investigation. The move is also being viewed as an effort to restore public trust in the handling of sensitive criminal cases that carry political implications.

Officials involved in the investigation have stated that the SIT will prioritize both speed and accuracy. All possible angles, including personal disputes, financial issues, and political links, will be thoroughly examined as part of the inquiry.

The murder has also reignited broader concerns about the safety of political workers and associates in regions marked by intense political competition. Calls for stronger security arrangements and faster judicial processes in such cases have gained momentum.

As the investigation progresses under the CBI’s supervision, further findings are expected to shed light on the motive behind the killing and the individuals involved in the crime.
