The makers of the horror-comedy film Bhooth Bangla have responded to allegations raised by several vendors who claimed that payments for their services remain pending despite the film’s commercial success. The controversy surfaced at a time when the film, starring Akshay Kumar and directed by Priyadarshan, continues to perform strongly at the box office and receive positive audience response across India.
According to reports circulating within the industry, a few vendors associated with the production alleged that substantial dues had not yet been cleared months after work on the film had concluded. Some suppliers reportedly claimed that payments amounting to several lakhs were still outstanding, leading to growing discussion within Bollywood circles regarding delayed compensation practices in film production.
The production team behind the film has now issued a clarification, stating that all contractual obligations are being handled in accordance with agreed procedures. The makers denied allegations suggesting intentional withholding of payments and maintained that the company has fulfilled its responsibilities toward vendors and service providers connected to the project.
The issue gained traction online after reports suggested that multiple vendors were waiting for settlement of invoices despite the movie emerging as one of the notable box office successes of the year. Industry insiders alleged that payment delays have increasingly become a concern within the entertainment business, particularly for technicians, suppliers, and support staff working behind the scenes.
One vendor reportedly claimed that a large payment had remained pending for months, while another alleged that recovery of dues becomes more difficult once a film completes its theatrical release and enters its profit-making phase. Such claims reignited conversations around financial transparency and payment timelines in the Indian film industry.
Amid the controversy, the production house reiterated that all dues linked to formal agreements are being processed as per contractual terms. The statement aimed to counter speculation that the makers had ignored or refused payments owed to vendors involved in the film’s production.
Despite the dispute, the controversy has not appeared to affect the theatrical performance of the movie. Bhooth Bangla has continued to attract audiences in cinemas and has reportedly crossed major box office milestones globally. The film marks the much-anticipated reunion of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan after several years, a collaboration that generated strong nostalgia among Bollywood fans familiar with their earlier comedy classics.
The film features a prominent ensemble cast including Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Wamiqa Gabbi. Audiences have particularly praised the blend of horror and comedy elements, along with the return of the signature comic style associated with Priyadarshan’s filmmaking.
The controversy has also drawn comparisons to earlier disputes within the Hindi film industry where technicians, crew members, and vendors accused production houses of delayed payments after film releases. Over the past few years, several such complaints have highlighted the financial struggles faced by non-star workers in the entertainment sector.
While the makers of Bhooth Bangla continue to deny any wrongdoing, the incident has once again spotlighted the broader issue of payment management and accountability in Bollywood productions. Industry observers believe the matter could further intensify discussions about establishing stricter financial protocols and timely settlement systems for vendors and crew members working across film projects.
As the film maintains its successful theatrical run, attention now remains focused not only on its box office achievements but also on whether the payment dispute allegations will see further developments in the coming days.
