India’s first privately developed orbital rocket, Vikram-1, built by Skyroot Aerospace, was flagged off for Sriharikota from Hyderabad on Friday.
The ceremony was led by A. Revanth Reddy, marking the rocket’s departure to the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, where its launch preparations will continue.
Officials said the flag-off indicates the completion of pre-flight testing, with key rocket components already positioned at the launch site. The upcoming mission is expected to be India’s first attempt at a privately led orbital launch.
Vikram-1 is designed to carry small satellites into low Earth orbit and represents a significant step in the country’s growing private space sector. The launch is expected in the coming months, subject to final integration and clearances under the supervision of national space authorities.
