New Delhi: On Friday, the Lok Sabha is scheduled to convene with Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya presenting the National Sports Governance Bill of 2025 for consideration and approval.
As per the business list released by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, Union Sports Minister Mandaviya will also propose amendments to the National Anti-Doping Act, 2022, for discussion and passage in the house.
The National Sports Governance Bill is designed to “facilitate the development and promotion of sports, implement welfare measures for athletes, uphold ethical practices grounded in fundamental universal principles of good governance, ethics, and fair play within the Olympic and sports movement, adhere to the Olympic Charter, the Paralympic Charter, international best practices, and established legal standards, and to ensure the resolution of sports grievances and disputes in a unified, fair, and effective manner, along with related matters.”
Union Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will introduce the Indian Ports Bill of 2025, which seeks to consolidate laws pertaining to ports, encourage integrated port development, enhance the ease of doing business, and ensure optimal use of India’s coastline.
The bill aims to “create and empower State Maritime Boards for the effective management of ports other than major ports; establish the Maritime State Development Council to promote structured growth and development in the port sector; and provide for the management of pollution, disasters, emergencies, security, safety, navigation, and data at ports.”
Additionally, the lower house is anticipated to address private members’ bills (PMBs) in the evening. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member Rajiv Pratap Rudy will suggest amendments to the Mental Healthcare (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which includes modifications to Section 2.
Additionally, several reports from the committee on the welfare of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) will be submitted in the lower house, where Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs Ganesh Singh and Ramvir Singh Bidhuri will present the eighth and ninth reports on the following topics:
“Execution of various measures/schemes for the welfare of OBCs under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (Department of Social Justice and Empowerment), as well as the formulation and implementation of the Reservation Policy for OBCs in government posts and services under the Government of India and Union Territories, along with measures taken to ensure OBC representation in employment and their welfare across various Departments/Organizations/Institutions under the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) related to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.”
Congress MP Saleng A Sangma and BJP MP Manju Sharma will present the reports from the standing committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, emphasizing the government’s actions regarding the recommendations made in previous reports concerning “Appointment of Notaries, Specific Aspects of the Election Process and their Reform, and Review of the Functioning of Recruitment Organizations of the Government of India.”
Earlier on Thursday, the Lok Sabha approved the Manipur Appropriation (No.2) Bill, 2025. The house also passed the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
The appropriation bill aims to authorize the payment and appropriation of certain amounts from the Consolidated Fund of the State of Manipur for the services of the financial year 2025-26.
The two bills were passed amidst uproar in the house, with the opposition demanding a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. The bills were approved following brief comments from Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who also criticized the opposition parties for their protests.
