Four members of a family were killed and another person was injured after a speeding SUV allegedly crashed into them on State Highway-2 in Rajasthan’s Jaipur district on Friday. The incident occurred on the Fagi-Chaksu Road, leaving the family devastated and raising fresh concerns over dangerous driving on busy highways.
According to police, the family members had been returning to their home in the Kumhar locality on Diggi Road in Fagi after completing work in their agricultural fields. As they were travelling along the highway, a Bolero SUV allegedly approached at high speed and struck the group.
The impact was severe. Four members of the family died in the collision, while another family member sustained injuries. Police and local residents rushed to the scene after receiving information about the accident.
The deceased were identified as 65-year-old Satyanarayan, his 60-year-old wife Manmouj, his 35-year-old daughter-in-law Amrita Devi and his 23-year-old younger daughter-in-law Shimla Devi.
Satyanarayan’s son, 38-year-old Badrinarayan Kumhar, was injured in the crash. According to his account, the force of the collision threw him away from the immediate path of the SUV, while the other members of his family were struck directly by the vehicle.
The accident unfolded within moments as the family made their way home from their fields. The severity of the impact left four people dead, while Badrinarayan survived with injuries.
Following the crash, local residents alerted police and emergency services. Police personnel reached the accident site and arranged for the bodies to be transported to Fagi Sub-District Hospital in a 108 ambulance.
The incident has also brought attention to the devastating consequences of high-speed driving on highways, particularly in areas where local residents regularly travel between agricultural fields and nearby settlements.
The loss has left two families facing a particularly difficult situation. Amrita Devi, one of the victims, is survived by a 15-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old son. Her family had also suffered an earlier tragedy, as her five-year-old son had died in a road accident several years ago.
Shimla Devi, who had studied nursing, was also killed in the crash. She is survived by her eight-month-old daughter, Vanshika. Her husband, Suresh, works for a jewellery company in Jaipur.
The deaths have caused shock and grief among relatives and residents in the area. The accident is being investigated by police, who are examining the circumstances surrounding the collision and the alleged high speed of the SUV.
The tragedy underscores the potentially fatal consequences of reckless or excessive speed on highways. For families living near major roads, journeys that are part of their daily routine can quickly become dangerous when vehicles are driven without adequate caution.
Road accidents remain a serious public-safety concern across India, with speeding, careless driving and other traffic violations frequently contributing to fatal crashes. The Jaipur incident once again highlights the need for motorists to maintain safe speeds, remain alert and exercise greater caution around pedestrians and local residents using highway stretches.
As the investigation continues, the families of the victims are left to cope with the loss of four members in a single accident, while the injured survivor recovers from the trauma of witnessing the deaths of his loved ones.
