The political battle over Punjab’s worsening drug crisis has intensified, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) targeting the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and accusing it of failing to effectively address the spread of narcotics in the State.
The BJP has alleged that despite repeated promises and announcements by the Punjab government to eliminate drug abuse, the situation on the ground continues to deteriorate. The party claimed that the increasing availability of illegal substances and the impact of addiction among young people reflect shortcomings in the government’s approach towards tackling the issue.
According to BJP leaders, the State administration has not taken adequate steps to strengthen enforcement agencies, improve coordination between departments, and dismantle networks involved in drug trafficking. They argued that a stronger strategy involving strict policing, rehabilitation programmes, and preventive measures is required to deal with the long-standing challenge.
BJP Questions Government’s Anti-Drug Measures
The BJP has criticised the AAP-led administration over what it described as a lack of visible progress in controlling drug-related activities.
