Veteran television actor Apara Mehta has opened up about one of the most frightening experiences of her career, recalling how overwhelming fan admiration during the peak popularity of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi turned into a dangerous ordeal. The actor revealed that she was once mobbed by an uncontrollable crowd, suffered a cigarette burn, and even faced an attempt to snatch her diamond ring.

Mehta, who became a household name for portraying Savita Virani in the iconic television drama, reflected on the extraordinary level of fame the show enjoyed in the early 2000s. According to her, the serial’s immense popularity often drew massive crowds wherever the cast appeared, with fans eager to catch a glimpse of their favourite television stars.

A theatre event turned chaotic

Recalling one such incident, Mehta said she was performing in a Gujarati stage play in Kolkata when Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was at the height of its success. The venue was packed, and the atmosphere became increasingly charged as audiences recognised her.

She said the crowd rushed towards her as soon as she arrived, creating a situation that quickly spiralled out of control. Fans surrounded her from all sides, pushing and pulling in an attempt to get closer.

The veteran actor revealed that while interacting with fans, someone tried to pull a diamond ring off her finger, while another person accidentally burned her with a lit cigarette. As the crowd continued to grow, the podium where she was standing reportedly began shaking, making the situation even more alarming.

She added that the organisers eventually realised the seriousness of the situation and stepped in to escort her safely away. A protective circle was formed around her before she was taken out of the venue.
