West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has declined to describe the death of Indrajit Mondal as a case of lynching, stating that the incident should instead be treated as a murder until the ongoing investigation establishes the complete sequence of events. Her remarks came amid growing political debate and public concern following violent unrest in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district.

The Chief Minister assured that the state government would conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and that those found responsible would face strict legal action. She also announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the circumstances surrounding the violence and Mondal’s death.

Chief Minister Calls for Objective Investigation

Addressing the issue, Mamata Banerjee emphasized that assigning labels before the completion of the investigation could influence public perception and interfere with the legal process. She said the government would rely on factual evidence collected during the inquiry rather than speculation or political narratives.

According to the Chief Minister, every individual involved in the crime, irrespective of their identity or affiliation, would be brought before the law.
