In a major welfare initiative aimed at strengthening social security for vulnerable sections of society, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday transferred ₹1,423.94 crore to the bank accounts of 97.84 lakh beneficiaries under various social security pension schemes. The financial assistance was disbursed through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring that eligible recipients received the funds directly without intermediaries.
The large-scale transfer reflects the Bihar government’s continued emphasis on supporting senior citizens, widows, persons with disabilities, and other economically weaker individuals who depend on monthly pension assistance for their livelihood.
Pension Amount Increased Earlier This Year
The latest transfer follows the state government’s decision to significantly enhance monthly pension assistance. From July 2025, beneficiaries under different social security pension schemes have been receiving ₹1,100 per month, a substantial increase from the previous amount of ₹400.
The revised pension amount was introduced to help beneficiaries cope with rising living costs and improve their financial security. The enhanced support is expected to provide better access to essential needs such as food, healthcare, medicines, and other daily expenses.
Direct Transfer to Nearly 98 Lakh Beneficiaries
According to official figures, a total of 97.84 lakh pensioners across Bihar benefited from the latest financial transfer. The schemes cover multiple categories of vulnerable citizens, including:
- Senior citizens
- Widows
- Persons with disabilities
- Other eligible beneficiaries under the state’s social security programmes
The government transferred the funds directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the DBT mechanism, promoting transparency, accountability, and timely delivery of welfare benefits.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reiterated that social security remains one of the government’s highest priorities. He stated that the administration is committed to ensuring that financial assistance reaches eligible beneficiaries on time and without unnecessary delays.
The Chief Minister emphasized that welfare programmes are designed to provide dignity and financial stability to people who require government support. He added that the enhanced pension amount demonstrates the state’s commitment to improving the quality of life for economically vulnerable citizens.

The use of Direct Benefit Transfer has become a key feature of Bihar’s welfare delivery system.
