A senior Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka has been arrested following serious allegations of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl, in a case that has triggered widespread concern and prompted a formal police investigation.

According to authorities, the arrest was made after a complaint was filed alleging inappropriate and unlawful conduct involving the minor. Acting swiftly on the report, law enforcement officials initiated an inquiry and subsequently took the monk into custody for questioning and further legal proceedings.

Police officials confirmed that the accused is a prominent religious figure associated with a well-known Buddhist institution. The allegations have raised significant public attention, given the monk’s position within the religious community and the sensitive nature of the case involving a child.

Following the arrest, investigators have begun collecting evidence and recording statements from relevant individuals, including the complainant’s guardians and potential witnesses.
