Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has opened up about the growing backlash he faces from opposing sides amid ongoing controversy linked to Khalistan-related narratives, revealing that he finds himself caught in a difficult and often hostile situation.
His remarks come in the wake of recent disruptions at his international concerts, where pro-Khalistan elements waved flags and raised slogans, sparking renewed debate around his public image and perceived political positioning.
Addressing the controversy candidly, Dosanjh said he is frequently labelled a “Khalistani” in India, while also facing criticism and attacks from separatist groups abroad. He described the situation as deeply frustrating, noting that he is unable to satisfy either side despite not aligning himself with any political agenda.
According to him, the backlash has created a paradox where he is targeted simultaneously by those who accuse him of supporting separatism and by those who believe he does not support it enough. This dual criticism, he suggested, leaves him in a state of confusion about how to respond or position himself publicly.
The controversy intensified after multiple incidents during his “Aura” tour shows in Canada, where groups of attendees disrupted performances by waving Khalistan flags and raising slogans. In some cases, security had to intervene to restore order.
During one such performance, Dosanjh directly addressed the audience, urging individuals not to bring political messaging into his concerts. He emphasized that his shows are meant to celebrate music and unity rather than serve as platforms for political expression.
This is not the first time Dosanjh has found himself at the center of political controversy. In the past, he has reportedly received threats from pro-Khalistan groups over perceived actions, including gestures interpreted as controversial by certain factions.
At the same time, he has also faced criticism within India, particularly on social media, where some voices have questioned his stance and affiliations. These overlapping pressures have contributed to the current situation where the artist feels targeted from multiple directions.
Despite the criticism, Dosanjh has consistently maintained that his focus remains on spreading positivity, culture, and music. He has reiterated that his intention is to represent Punjab and connect with global audiences, not to engage in political debates.
His recent statements highlight the growing challenges faced by public figures navigating politically sensitive issues, especially in a globalized entertainment landscape where actions are scrutinized across borders.
