Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has condemned Israel’s recent military strikes in Lebanon, describing them as a violation of an existing ceasefire and a threat to ongoing diplomatic efforts.
In a social media post, Pezeshkian called the renewed offensive a “blatant breach” of the initial ceasefire agreement, accusing Israel of showing a lack of commitment to potential peace deals. He cautioned that continued military action would undermine negotiations, stating that such actions could make any dialogue “meaningless.”
Issuing a strong message of support for Lebanon, he added that Iran would stand by its allies, warning that the country remains prepared to respond if the situation escalates further. He also characterised the strikes as repeated aggression, calling them a clear sign of bad faith in the peace process.
As per reports, the Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also warned that violations of the ceasefire would have consequences. He emphasised that Lebanon and other regional allies form a key part of the broader ceasefire framework and stressed that continued hostilities could trigger strong responses.
Ghalibaf also referenced remarks by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, noting that the Lebanon issue has been publicly acknowledged and cannot be dismissed. He urged an immediate halt to the escalation, warning of serious repercussions if tensions continue.
The statements come as Israel launched fresh strikes on Lebanon on Thursday, raising fears about the stability of the ceasefire in the region. The latest attacks follow some of the deadliest phases of the conflict, reportedly leaving over 250 people dead and threatening to derail a proposed truce linked to former US President Donald Trump.
Amid the escalating situation, Iranian negotiators are expected to travel to Pakistan to initiate a new round of peace talks, with a meeting involving a US delegation scheduled for Saturday.
