Iran’s state media has clarified that the wife of former supreme leader Ali Khamenei is alive, rejecting earlier reports that she was killed in the February 28 airstrike on Tehran. The confusion came after initial reports suggested that several members of the leader’s family had died in the attack carried out by the United States and Israel.
The clarification was reportedly issued shortly after Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, delivered his first public statement following the strike. In his address, he confirmed that his father had been killed in the attack and said he personally saw his father’s body after the incident. He described the late leader as a strong and determined figure who played a major role in Iran’s political and religious life for many years.
Mojtaba Khamenei also revealed that several members of his family were killed in the strike. According to his statement, his wife, one of his sisters, his niece, and the husband of another sister died in the attack. Iranian media later reportedly corrected earlier claims and confirmed that Ali Khamenei’s wife survived the strike.
The attack on Tehranhas further increased tensions in the Middle East, with the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel continuing to escalate.
Reports suggest that the strike was a highly planned operation. Long-range missiles reportedly hit a leadership compound in Tehran at around 9.40 am local time, targeting senior Iranian officials who were attending a meeting there. An intelligence report claims that the operation involved detailed monitoring of Khamenei’s movements for months, using information gathered by American and Israeli intelligence agencies.
The near-simultaneous missile strikes reportedly killed Ali Khamenei and several senior figures in Iran’s political and security leadership.
