A documentary charting the life of US First Lady Melania Trump in the 20 days leading up to President Donald Trump’s second inauguration has failed to attract significant interest in the UK, with ticket sales remaining extremely low ahead of its release, as per the reports.
Ahead of its London premiere on Friday, just one ticket had been reportedly sold for the 3.10 pm screening at a cinema in Islington, while only two tickets were purchased for the 6 pm showing. Meanwhile, none of the seats had been booked for the 28 scheduled screenings at Vue cinemas across the capital.
The documentary, titled Melania, is scheduled for global release on Friday. It was first screened privately at the White House on January 24 for the president, the First Lady and a small group of close friends.
The film offers behind-the-scenes access to Melania Trump, who has largely maintained a low public profile during her husband’s second term in office.
The trailer opens on Inauguration Day 2025, highlighting her fashion choices and her role as an adviser to the President, including urging him to include the words “peacemaker and unifier” in his inaugural address.
The documentary features the First Lady’s diplomatic engagements, behind-the-scenes glimpses of Secret Service operations and personal moments, alongside occasional insights into the President’s sense of humour.
Ahead of the public release, the president and the First Lady are due to attend a premiere at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday. Earlier this week, Melania Trump also rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange to promote the film.
In the US, the documentary has been heavily promoted through television advertising, billboards and an immersive promotional experience in Las Vegas.
