Courteous Crime Shocks Gujarat: Elderly Woman Tied Up and Robbed in Kheda Village

An unusual and disturbing burglary has been reported from Sevalia village in Gujarat’s Kheda district, where a group of robbers allegedly carried out a crime with unexpected calmness and courtesy. The incident involved a 76-year-old woman who was tied up in her own home while the intruders escaped with cash and jewellery worth approximately ₹65,000.

According to the complaint filed with local police, the elderly woman lives alone in a bungalow located in a residential society near an industrial area. On the night of the incident, she had completed her dinner and gone to sleep as usual. Around late evening, she was suddenly awakened by the presence of an unknown man standing close to her bed.

As she opened her eyes, she realized that there were four men inside her room. Two of them stood near her head and the other two near her feet. One of the intruders gently placed his hand over her mouth and asked her not to shout or panic. Unlike typical cases of violent break-ins, the men reportedly spoke in a calm tone and requested her cooperation.

The robbers then asked for permission to tie her hands and feet. Using pieces of cloth found inside the house, they restrained her carefully without causing physical harm. Though frightened, the woman remained composed and followed their instructions, fearing for her safety.

A Calm but Calculated Robbery

After tying her up, the intruders asked where she kept her money and valuables. The woman pointed them to a drawer that contained keys to a cupboard and around ₹15,000 in cash meant for daily expenses. The robbers searched the cupboard but did not find any significant valuables.

When questioned about jewellery, she initially stated that she did not possess any. However, one of the men noticed a gold ring on her finger and asked her to hand it over. She removed the ring and gave it to him. The gold ring was later estimated to weigh about four grams.

After collecting the cash and the ring, the robbers searched the house further but did not find anything else of value. The total loss was calculated at approximately ₹65,000.

Exit Without Violence

Before leaving, the intruders loosened the cloth around her hands and told her not to raise an alarm immediately. They informed her that she could untie her feet once they had exited the house. Despite the traumatic experience, the woman was not physically injured.

She remained inside her home until morning. At daybreak, she called out to the watchman stationed near the society and narrated the incident. The watchman immediately informed the police.

Preliminary inspection of the house revealed that the robbers likely gained entry by breaking the mosquito mesh and opening a dining room window. There were no signs of forced entry through the main door.

Police Investigation Underway

Police have registered a case of house trespass and robbery and have begun a detailed investigation. Officers are scanning nearby CCTV footage and questioning local residents to trace the movement of the suspects before and after the incident.

Authorities have described the crime as highly unusual because of the robbers’ polite behavior and the absence of physical violence. However, they stressed that the calm nature of the act does not reduce the seriousness of the offence.

Special teams have been deployed to identify the accused, and police are exploring whether the same group may have been involved in similar incidents in nearby areas.

Community in Shock

The incident has caused widespread concern among residents, especially senior citizens living alone. Many locals have expressed fear over the safety of elderly people in isolated homes. The crime has also sparked discussions about improving night-time security, increasing police patrolling, and installing surveillance cameras in residential societies.

Family members of elderly residents are urging stronger security measures and frequent check-ins to prevent similar incidents. The case has highlighted how vulnerable senior citizens can be, even in seemingly quiet neighborhoods.

A Disturbing New Pattern

While crimes involving aggression and violence are more common, this case stands out because of the calculated and courteous manner in which the robbery was executed. Experts believe such behavior may be a tactic used by criminals to reduce resistance and avoid attention, making their operations smoother and less risky.

Law enforcement agencies are now urging residents to remain alert, secure windows and doors properly, and immediately report any suspicious activity.

The robbery in Kheda district serves as a chilling reminder that crime can take unexpected forms. Even when carried out without visible violence, such incidents leave lasting psychological impact on victims and raise serious concerns about community safety. As investigations continue, authorities hope to identify and arrest the culprits quickly while reinforcing the importance of protecting elderly citizens from similar threats.
