Bengaluru Woman Dies by Suicide After ₹200 Dispute With Husband, Police Register Case

In a tragic crime-related incident, a woman died by suicide after an alleged dispute with her husband over ₹200 that was meant for repayment of a self-help group loan. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to her death.

According to police sources, the woman had kept ₹200 separately to pay an installment of a loan she had taken through a local self-help group. On the day of the incident, her husband allegedly took the money without informing her. When she realised the amount was missing, an argument reportedly broke out between the couple.

Police said the dispute created severe emotional distress for the woman, as the money was meant for loan repayment. Soon after the argument, she was found dead inside her house. Initial observations suggest suicide, but officials said all angles are being examined.

The police rushed to the spot after receiving information and conducted a preliminary investigation. The body was sent for post-mortem to confirm the cause of death. Statements of family members, neighbours, and others who were present in the area at the time are being recorded.

A senior police officer said that while the amount involved was only ₹200, it was significant because it was kept aside for a specific financial obligation. “We are investigating whether there was any form of harassment, pressure, or repeated disputes that could have driven the woman to take such an extreme step,” the officer said.

The husband is being questioned as part of the investigation. Police are also checking whether the case attracts provisions related to abetment of suicide or domestic cruelty, depending on the evidence collected.

Officials added that domestic disputes over money, even small amounts, can sometimes escalate quickly and have serious consequences. “We are treating this as a sensitive crime case. If any criminal responsibility is established, strict legal action will follow,” the officer said.

The incident has sent shockwaves in the local community. Neighbours described the woman as responsible and regular in repaying her loan installments. Police believe that missing even a small amount meant for repayment may have caused her extreme anxiety.

The case remains under investigation, and further action will be taken based on post-mortem results and witness statements.
