Mumbai: The financial capital of India woke up to cloudy skies and light showers on Thursday as the monsoon spell continued to drench the city and its surrounding regions. For more than a week, Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Palghar have witnessed persistent rainfall — ranging from heavy downpours to intermittent drizzle — keeping the region cool but waterlogged in several areas.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai will experience cloudy skies throughout the day, with light to moderate rainfall expected and isolated pockets likely to receive heavy showers. The maximum temperature is expected to stay around 29°C, while the minimum will remain near 25°C. Moderate winds are also forecast, adding to the damp weather conditions.
Thane and Navi Mumbai are expected to follow a similar pattern, with some areas receiving heavy showers and others experiencing light drizzle. Authorities have warned that intense rain may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, potentially affecting suburban train services, particularly on the Central Railway line.
In Palghar, rural areas may receive heavy rainfall, while light showers are expected elsewhere. While the rains are providing much-needed relief to farmers and boosting kharif crops, urban pockets such as Vasai and Virar could face waterlogging and drainage issues.
Across the Konkan belt, the situation remains challenging. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts, warning of heavy rain through the day.
Ghat sections in Raigad are likely to receive intense downpours, Ratnagiri faces the risk of rising river levels, and Sindhudurg is expected to see gusty winds along with showers.
Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours.
