In a tragic incident in Mumbai, seven people — including six women — sustained severe burn injuries after a fire broke out due to a suspected LPG gas leak in Kandivali’s Akurli area on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at Ram Kisan Mestri Chawl, near ESIC Hospital, on Military Road at Akurli Cross Road No. 3 in Kandivali East. The Mumbai Fire Brigade received the call at 9:05 AM and rushed to the spot.
According to officials, the fire was confined to electric wiring, installations, edibles, LPG cylinder, gas regulator, and stove within a ground-plus-one floored shop. The blaze was brought under control by 9:33 AM.

The victims were immediately rushed to hospitals for treatment. Four of the injured were taken to ESIC Hospital and have been identified as Shivani Gandhi (51), with 70% burns; Nitu Gupta (31), 80% burns; Janaki Gupta (39), 70% burns; and Manaram Kumacat (55), 40% burns.
Three others — Raksha Joshi (47) with 85-90% burns, Durga Gupta (30) with 85-90% burns, and Poonam (28) with 90% burns — were first admitted to BDBA Hospital and later shifted to Kasturba Hospital due to the severity of their condition.
Authorities have confirmed that all seven victims are in critical condition and undergoing intensive treatment. Further updates regarding their health status and the cause of the gas leak are awaited.
