PM Modi To Inaugurate Jodhpur’s New Airport Terminal This Diwali

Jodhpur, the second-largest city in Rajasthan, is set to welcome its new airport terminal by Diwali this year, which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Initially designed to operate domestic flights, the terminal has the capacity to handle international operations in the future.

Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat confirmed that the construction of the terminal is in its final stages and has directed officials to ensure completion by October.

After inspecting the site, Shekhawat stated that 13 domestic flights will operate from the terminal, significantly enhancing Jodhpur’s air connectivity ahead of the tourist season.

Built at a cost of ₹480 crore, the new terminal spans approximately 24,000 square meters and incorporates Jodhpuri stone to reflect a heritage-inspired design.

Facilities for passengers include six aerobridges for direct boarding, 40 check-in counters, 16 self-check-in kiosks, and three conveyor belts, making it equipped to meet the city’s aviation needs for the next 20 years.

Jodhpur serves as a major tourist destination with significant air traffic, while also functioning as a key base for the Indian Army, Indian Air Force (IAF), and Border Security Force.

The South Western Air Command, based in Jodhpur, is strategically important, located just 250 km from the international border with Pakistan.

The city is also home to prominent educational and research institutions, including AIIMS Jodhpur, IIT Jodhpur, and National Law University, Jodhpur.
