Vasai, Maharashtra: Tourists had a narrow escape at Kalamb Beach in Vasai, approximately 75 km from Mumbai, on Sunday when their SUV got trapped in soft sand and was nearly swept into the Arabian Sea.
The visitors, driving a white Scorpio, had ventured too close to the shoreline, leaving the vehicle vulnerable to the rising tide.
As waves grew stronger, the SUV became almost submerged, with seawater gushing around it, leaving the tourists stranded and unsure how to move the vehicle to safety.
A video of the incident captured the tense moment as locals rushed to assist, forming a human chain and pulling the SUV back to solid ground.

The rescue effort resembled a tug-of-war between man and sea, highlighting the community’s swift response and coordination.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported, although the exact number of people inside the SUV at the time remains unclear. The vehicle was successfully pulled from the water and returned to the shore.
The incident underscores the importance of coastal safety, reminding visitors that driving too close to the waterline can quickly turn a beach outing into a life-threatening situation.
Tourists are advised to remain cautious of rising tides and soft sand while driving near beaches.
