Imphal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Manipur on Saturday, September 13, to launch a slew of major development projects worth ₹8,500 crore, marking a significant step towards restoring peace and boosting infrastructure in the state.
According to Manipur Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, the Prime Minister will inaugurate 17 projects and lay the foundation stone for 14 others. The projects include initiatives worth ₹7,300 crore from Churachandpur’s Peace Ground and infrastructure projects worth ₹1,200 crore from Kangla Fort in Imphal.
Modi will first arrive in Churachandpur from Mizoram’s capital Aizawl, where he will interact with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by recent ethnic violence, particularly from the Kuki-Zo tribal community.
Following this, he will lay the foundation stone for state-wide infrastructure projects, address a public gathering at Peace Ground, and later travel to Imphal to continue his engagements.
Chief Secretary Goel said the Prime Minister’s visit reaffirms the government’s commitment to restoring peace and accelerating the state’s development. “Manipur is not just a border state but a central pillar of India’s ‘Act East Policy’ and a gateway to Southeast Asia. The joint efforts of all stakeholders have gradually restored stability and security in the state,” he said.
Among the 17 projects being inaugurated are the Manipur Bhawan at Dwarka in New Delhi and Salt Lake City in Kolkata, the new Civil Secretariat, New Police Headquarters, and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) building at Mantripukhri in Imphal West.
Other projects include four new Ima Markets (women’s markets) at Tengnoupal, Noney, Pallel, and Moirang; development of the Western River Front of the Imphal River Phase-II; a four-lane bridge over the Irang River on NH-38 in Noney district; and an Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Tokpa village in Churachandpur.
The 14 projects for which foundation stones will be laid include the Manipur Urban Roads, Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project, Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) Project with skilling and employment generation components, upgradation and double-laning of NH-102A in Tengnoupal district, construction of Working Women Hostels at nine locations, strengthening of 120 schools across 16 districts, and establishment of super-speciality healthcare facilities in remote and hill districts.
The Chief Secretary appealed to the people of Manipur to come forward, welcome the Prime Minister, and actively participate in the programme, calling the visit “a milestone towards peace, normalcy, and accelerated growth.”
