US President Donald Trump may visit India later this year to attend the Quad Leaders Summit, ambassador-designate Sergio Gor revealed during his Senate confirmation hearing.
Gor, a close aide of Trump, told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that the president is “fully committed” to meeting Quad leaders and that discussions regarding the visit are already underway.
While Gor refrained from sharing specific dates, he emphasised the strategic importance of the Quad grouping, calling it “vitally important for the US.” His remarks come just weeks after reports claimed that Trump had dropped plans to attend the summit, scheduled to take place in November this year.
According to Indian government sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited Trump to visit India during their June 17 phone call, and the US president had accepted the invitation.

Gor’s statement suggests that plans for the visit are progressing, and a fresh round of conversations between Modi and Trump is expected soon to finalise the schedule.
During the confirmation hearing, Gor also spoke about the relationship between the two leaders, describing it as a “deep friendship.” He noted that despite differences over tariffs and trade, Trump has consistently praised PM Modi.
“The President has been critical of India, but he has gone out of his way to compliment Modi. They have an incredible relationship,” Gor said, adding that both sides are “not that far apart on a deal” to resolve tariff issues.
If confirmed, Gor will play a key role in coordinating the high-profile visit and further strengthening India-US ties in the Indo-Pacific region.
