Elphinstone Bridge Demolition: Mumbai Traffic Diversions and No-Parking Zones Announced from September 12

Mumbai’s iconic Elphinstone Bridge, which connects Parel and Prabhadevi from east to west, will be demolished by the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) to facilitate the construction of the upcoming Elphinstone Flyover and the Sewri-Worli Elevated Connector Flyover.

In view of the demolition, the Mumbai Traffic Police have announced a series of traffic diversions, one-way restrictions, and no-parking zones starting from 11:59 pm on September 12 (Friday) to ensure smooth vehicular movement.

Authorities noted that a similar plan had been announced earlier in April but was postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.

Traffic Diversions for East–West Traffic:

  • Vehicles traveling from Dadar East to Dadar West/Dadar Market must use Tilak Bridge.
  • Vehicles from Parel East heading to Prabhadevi or Lower Parel must use Currey Road Bridge between 7 am and 3 pm.
  • Vehicles from Parel/Byculla East going towards Worli, Coastal Road, or the Bandra-Worli Sea Link must use Chinchpokli Bridge.

  • Vehicles from Worli, Prabhadevi, Coastal Road, or Sea Link heading to Parel/Byculla East must use Chinchpokli Bridge.

One-Way Restrictions:

  • 7 am – 3 pm: One-way from Comrade Krishna Desai Chowk (Bharat Mata Junction) to Shingte Master Chowk.
  • 3 pm – 11 pm: One-way from Shingte Master Chowk to Comrade Krishna Desai Chowk.
  • 11 pm – 7 am: Road will remain open for two-way traffic.

No-Parking Zones:
Traffic Police have imposed no-parking restrictions on several major roads, including N.M. Joshi Road (Comrade Gulabrao Ganachary Junction to Dhanmill Junction), Senapati Bapat Road (St. Rohidas Chowk to Rakhangi Junction), Mahadev Palav Road, Sane Guruji Road, Bhavani Shankar Road, Raobahadur S.K. Bole Road, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marg (entire stretch), and Senapati Bapat Marg (Vadacha Naka to Phitwala Junction, both ways).

Emergency Services:
To ensure timely medical assistance, two ambulances will be stationed at Prabhadevi Railway Station (West Footbridge) and Parel Railway Station (East). Wheelchairs will also be made available along with the ambulances for emergencies.

The Mumbai Traffic Police have appealed to motorists to follow the diversions and avoid no-parking stretches to reduce congestion during the bridge demolition phase.
